For many - whether first-time, casual or seasoned listeners - classical music probably relates to a certain type of sound profile. Have you considered the other side of what you think is classical music?
We have some of our most intriguing adventures in life by travelling and experiencing the different flavours of diverse places and cultures. Often in music, some of the most exciting sound colours come from cultural and contextual influences of composers - and this was what we wanted to showcase in highlighting the other side of classical music. We added a double bass and accordion to our usual piano trio mix, for a program that fleeted between Piazzolla’s fiesty Argentinian tangos and Italian operatic influences in Bottesini’s Grand Duo Concertante - a virtuosic battle off between violinist Thomas Lo and double bassist Jono Coco. Our campaign images also alluded to concept of 'the other side' - created in collaboration with Melbourne fashion editorial photographer Jiajia Tan, and designers Aacute and Kuwaii.
